Delek, The Israel Fuel Corporation Ltd. (Delek Israel) was founded in 1951 and was the first fuel company to be set up after the establishment of Israel. Since then, the company has been a leader in Israel’s fuel sector, with a 23% market share, owning and operating 250 gas stations and 190 convenience stores around the country. In 2010, the company’s revenue was NIS 5.1 billion and operating profit was NIS 208 million.
Areas of Activity
Delek Israel and its subsidiaries market and distribute fuel and oils, and operate gas station complexes and the Menta con-venience stores chain. The company also locates, develops and builds public gas stations including retail outlets. The com-pany has three main areas of activity: gas stations and commercial areas including all the company’s activities in public gas stations; direct marketing including the company’s activities in selling fuel products to institutional customers, industry, construction, infrastructures, agriculture and more, marine fueling and industrial activities producing and marketing oils and refined oils; and fuel storage and distribution including four storage and distribution stations strategically located around the country.
Roadside Retail Chain
Retail activities are the main engine of growth in the company’s overall activities. Delek Israel invests major resources in de-veloping and expanding the Menta chain of convenience stores in its gas station complexes and other public institutions. Most of the stores are open 24/7 and provide a range of services including cash withdrawals, charging cellular phones, wi-fi, OTC drugs, post office services (in some stations) and more. The most popular products in the convenience stores include sandwiches and bakery products, snacks and ice cream, basic household products like milk and toiletries, newspapers and magazines. Menta also sells camping and hiking equipment, books and gifts and toys for children. Alongside regular Menta stores, the company plans on opening Menta Market which will be a new larger minimarket concept providing a broader response to customer’s needs.
